Danielle Beck MSc, Clinical Animal Behaviour

Complex behaviour is where experience matters most.

I’m Danielle Beck MSc CAB — Clinical Animal Behaviourist and founder of Control The Meerkat.

My work centres on self regulation, because when nervous systems feel safe, behaviour becomes clearer. I work with complex behavioural cases, professionals seeking mentoring support and guidance, and assistance dog teams.

Meeting needs changes everything.

Complexity often softens when we get the foundations right.

Much of what presents as complexity is often a nervous system trying to cope. When we stabilise regulation and meet core needs properly, behaviour settles — and clarity follows.

That’s why my work focuses on building strong foundations and supporting self-regulation — helping dogs to help themselves, rather than relying on external control.

This is where the core principles of the Meerkat Method comes from, understanding the individual as a whole and supporting dogs from the inside out

Assistance Dogs

Building emotional stability, resilience and sustainable public access foundations for working partnerships is my biggest joy! As an owner trained assistance dog handler myself I understand the complexities of  life with an assistance dog.

A practice grounded in professional standards.

I am a full Clinical Animal Behaviourist and both a member and a director of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) and both a registered Animal Training Instructor and Faculty with Professional Association of Canine Trainers (PACT).

Alongside clinical work,

  • I lecture students on dog training and behaviour,
  • Assess students and professionals on both their knowledge and understanding, and practical skills, for multiple Animal Behaviour and Training Counsel (ABTC) Organisations, along with the assessing the ABTC’s own APEL route to accreditation.
  • I’ve run a mentorship and couaching group for pet professionals since 2020

These professional roles allow me to contributing to the standards that shape modern behaviour practice both on the ground with clients and within organisations.

A little more about me.....

I’ve worked in the animal training and behaviour field for over 20 years, supporting complex cases and contributing to professional standards across the UK and internationally.

What drives my work is simple: behaviour makes more sense when we slow down and look properly. Through consultations, lecturing, assessment, and mentoring, I focus on helping both dogs and professionals build regulation, clarity, and confidence.

I’m regularly invited to present internationally on the topics of trauma, neuroscience, arousal regulation, behavioural rehabilitation, pattern games and of course my meerkat method, which often encompasses all of these areas.

Life in bubbles - an immersive journey where individuals experience a surreal existence enclosed within captivating, translucent spheres.

Life in bubbles is a concept I created from my time at Southampton University studying critical distances in 2010. The idea of controlling distance and personal space is the foundation for everything. You can find out more HERE
