Teaching Foundation Exercises

Foundation exercises are a great place to start with all dog training. It’s the basics of ensuring your dog doesn’t snatch the treat from your hand and understands when they have done it right.

As we’re using food a lot in the early stages we want to make sure you protect those fingers. The exercises in the video below are where to start. Have a watch and absolutely do try this at home.

They are also the start of impulse and self control and frustration tolerance training. Everything we are doing is helping your dog to think and lean how to manage themselves. By doing this they are learning emotional control, after all it’s those emotions that can take over their behaviour.

These foundation exercises will help you to teach your dog not to snatch food, wait, and follow

These foundation self control exercises build off the foundation exercises and help your dog to learn how to manage themselves without being told what to do. We wait for them to offer a calm behaviour, then they get what they want.
